Gonna read a lot about VC "returns" from the SpaceX IPO. Reminder that no VC is selling shares into the IPO, and can't sell for a while. So these are still paper gains, not actual cash for distribution-starved LPs in their funds.

Leaving aside the bad precedent (govt threatening to shut down a co unless it gets paid), the fee itself is kinda insane. The entire enterprise value was only around $14 billion. So this would be a 71% “banker’s” fee.

Yes, VC-backed startups have deep pocketed investors. BUT: VCs have their own investors, who have their own issues right now. Not very easy, if even possible, for VCs to make enough capital calls to fund portfolio-wide job-saving. PPP designed to help keep people on payrolls.
