This is so confusing. Did Anthropic really just drop Claude Code from their $20/month plan? Why would they do that through a pricing page update without making a proper announcement? Plus, $20/month still gets you Cowork, which is just Claude Code wearing a non-threatening hat!

The conclusions here feel wrong to me. The two lessons I see are: 1. Don't run agents anywhere they might be able to access production environment credentials - it's on you to know which credentials those are 2. Keep tested backups that are independent from your production host

Tucked away in this article is an appeal to the AI skeptics to PLEASE stop writing off stories like this OpenAI accidental exploit of Hugging Face as a dishonest marketing trick Frontier models can find and exploit vulnerabilities now, it helps nobody to pretend that they can't!

Resist the temptation to write this off as a stunt #

There will inevitably be some people who dismiss this story as a dishonest marketing trick by OpenAI to make their models sound terrifyingly effective. I found 81 instances of the term “marketing” in the Hacker News discussion of the incident.

To those people I say pull your heads out of the sand—you’re now including Hugging Face in your conspiracy theories, just so you can deny the crescendo of evidence here!

The best models we have today have the ability to both find and exploit new vulnerabilities. The ExploitGym paper itself concludes that “autonomous exploit development by frontier AI agents is no longer a hypothetical capability”, and this incident is a perfect example of exactly that.

This is notable: Opus 4.5 is ~60% more expensive than Sonnet ($25/million output compared to $15/million) but if it can use 76% fewer output reasoning tokens for the same complex task it may end up cheaper!

I spent some time yesterday exploring the new Amazon Nova LLM family, and I'm really impressed They're price and quality competitive with Google Gemini - and Nova Micro is now the cheapest model from any of the major vendors (cheaper even than Gemini 1.5 Flash-8B)

Claude 3.5 Haiku is out - two surprises: 1. It's priced differently from Claude 3 Haiku. 3.5 Sonnet had the same price as 3 Sonnet, but 3.5 Haiku costs ~4x more than 3 Haiku did 2. No image input support yet 3.5 Haiku beats 3 Opus though, and Opus cost 15x the new Haiku price!

One of the most notable trends from 2024 was the total collapse in terms of LLM pricing - the API models are absurdly inexpensive now Generating captions for 68,000 photos using Gemini 1.5 Flash 8B costs $1.68! t.co

Here’s a fun napkin calculation: how much would it cost to generate short descriptions of every one of the 68,000 photos in my personal photo library using Google’s Gemini 1.5 Flash 8B (released in October), their cheapest model?

Each photo would need 260 input tokens and around 100 output tokens.

260 * 68,000 = 17,680,000 input tokens
17,680,000 * $0.0375/million = $0.66
100 * 68,000 = 6,800,000 output tokens
6,800,000 * $0.15/million = $1.02

That’s a total cost of $1.68 to process 68,000 images. That’s so absurdly cheap I had to run the numbers three times to confirm I got it right.
